Guess who's going to be at Fanime over Memorial Day weekend?

:iconrabid-potato: and I will be tabling in the Artist Alley at table #17 Friday through Monday. Another attendee made a really amazing and easy to navigate Artist Alley Map, which is here, and I recommend using this over the official map to find me. According to said map we're in the G block :)

I'll have my one-shot minicomics, prints, on-site commissions, a limited number of Erstwhile books, and a select number of original pages from Erstwhile for sale (such as some of the watercolor pages from Death of the Little Hen). If you have specific requests for original pages, feel free to note me or email me by Wednesday night and I'll be happy to bring the page you're interested in :)

Other than preparing for convention stuff, I've been hard at work on my usual projects. Missing Monday is nearing the end of Chapter 3, I've recently launched my "Year in Greyscale" project for Littlest Elle, annnd I'm hard at work illustrating my next fairytale for Erstwhile! (Hint: it is more obscure than any other tale I've done and it involves magical transformation)

Hey guys! Merry Winter!

I recently completed another Erstwhile comic entitled Death of the Little Red Hen! It's my first time doing the complete adaptation myself (writing as well as art) and I had a lot of fun working on it. Also, I did the whole darn thing in watercolor pencil because I wanted to challenge myself. My wrist thought it was going to die for a while, but I'm pretty pleased with the results! ;)

I can't believe the year's almost over. There's so much more I want to accomplish next year.

Hey guys!

I'll be tabling at Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco October 13-14 at table 634. I'm happy to take commissions or quickie sketch trades while I'm at the table, I've got all sorts of minicomics, some buttons, and a limited supply of the fancy hardcover Erstwhile books! Also, hopefully, a book collecting some of the burlesque lifedrawing that I get up to all the time, crossing my fingers on that :)

Speaking of Erstwhile, the Brother and Sister comic that I illustrated is currently running on the site. It's my first time working digitally from inks to finish and it helped me open up to different ways of working that are bleeding over into what I do now. The colors are especially different from what I've done in the past. Hope you enjoy it!

Otherwise, been hard at work on a dozen things in the background over here. I'll try to stop and do some sneak peeks soon!

Short notice, but I'll be at Castro Valley pride this Saturday (in Castro Valley, naturally) if any locals are planning on being there :) I'll also be tabling at SF Zinefest Labor Day weekend in San Francisco (that's slightly more proper notice, right?).

Other than that, things have been kind of slower for me lately. I recently wrapped up my next comic for Erstwhile, which I think is running next after Iron Hans (seriously, have you checked out Iron Hans? It's AWESOME. Best facial expressions ever :D). We had a super successful kickstarter for our first print volume, which is fantastic! Thank you to everyone for your support, I hope you enjoy the end product ^_^

Oh, and I finally consolidated my DA accounts to this one. I don't spend tons of time posting solo art up these days, so having a fanart only account is a little silly. So hey, any new fanart I do might just show up here! Oh no, fandom ;)

Image Comic Expo is coming up February 24-26 at the Oakland convention center in downtown Oakland! :) I'll be in the Artist Alley, booth to be announced, and I will be selling my wares and taking sketch commissions and all my usual conventiony stuff. I'm very excited that ICE has arrived to fill the void now that Wondercon has "temporarily" moved to Southern California and I'm hoping it'll be a blast to participate!

As you may've seen promoted on such websites as io9 (!!), I'm one of the artists for the awesome collaborative fairytale webcomic called Erstwhile. My first story just wrapped up last week and my second is just starting, please go check it out!

Hello!

Alternative Press Expo is next weekend, October 1-2 at the Concourse in downtown San Francisco. I'll be there at table 508 so folks in the area should stop by! I'm taking requests and pre-orders to get started on sketch commissions, so interested parties please email me :) (cozyfire @ gmail.com)

Things've gotten busy for me this year. I've decided I don't like being idle, so here are things I am trying to do outside of, you know, my day jobs (which are insane right now, but that is neither here nor there):

First of all, I will be at Wondercon again this year, table AA-061. Local folks should come say hello! I managed to pull Hey Derby Girl 02 together in plenty of time, so I'll be debuting that at my table (alongside others, of course).

Second, I've started a flickr account where I can post studies and lifedrawings that I otherwise would not be posting to the web. It updates quite frequently at the moment (I have a 365 "sketch an animal from reference" project going for 2011 and I'm trying to get to Dr. Sketchy's once a month, so I have lots of things to share). It's where I go to eat my veggies, as it were, and I can already see a little improvement.

Third, I started Missing Monday, which is that mystery webcomic project I've been murmuring about for ages. It will update on Tuesdays (updating on Mondays proper seemed too precious; also I have another comic that updates Mondays).

Fourth, I am about to embark on another Erstwhile Comic with :iconstrawberrygina: . More on that later on, obviously, since I have a bit of legwork until I can share things.

And I am sort of exhausted just typing all of that out ^_^;; Should be an interesting year!

Sorry for the account being a little stale (yikes, is it ever!).

For recent work, I did participate in Sketchavember over at my livejournal during the month of November and some of those are pretty interesting. Mileage may vary, of course.

I am back to work on Hey Derby Girl (trying to get issue 02 done by mid February, let's see how that goes), keeping up with the Littlest Elle, and starting something new. More on the something new soon, hopefully.

I will also be attending Wondercon this year for sure. Any familiar faces I should look for? :)

So, I've been using the same Intuos I graphics tablet to do all my digital work since before Y2k. It has been an awesome little workhorse and it has seen me through dead computer after dead computer, so I can't complain.

I am, however, ready to upgrade to something more sophisticated and I have absolutely no clue what to upgrade to. Anybody know anything about tablets that you can share? Like, what is a good model to invest in to replace this thing?

I hear that Cintiqs are amazing but what is so special about them other than being able to see a copy of the screen while you draw? And how durable are they to getting scratched up?

Any advice would be super appreciated ^_^;;

How is it my last entry is a year old? Yikes!

First off, I have some art cards for sale at the moment. $8 a card. That is cheaper than I sell them at conventions. Times are tough and money is tight, so please consider checking them out!

Second, I will be at Alternative Press Expo again this fall (October 16-17), tabling under Elle Skinner. Locals should come say hello! Not only will I be showcasing my comics, my jewelry, and my original comic pages, but I'll also be debuting a new mini about Roller Derby. I just got it back from the printer and it looks amazing!

it's beginning to feel like winter

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 14, 2009, 9:07 PM

Late fall is one of my favorite times of year. Granted, leaves don't fall here. And granted, we don't get snow. But it's still crisp and cool and wonderful. I like bundling up in layers upon layers, rotating through my massive scarf collection.

I've been a busy little worker bee lately. And finally I can start to share some of those things!

First, I just wrapped up the art for my second Erstwhile Comic with Strawberry Comics. All Fur is actually the story that introduced me to fairy tales when I was in college and it got me started on this whole path of inspiration. I had a lot of fun working on this, from the designing to the inking to the coloring, and I think it shows.

Second, Skratch Publishing went live this fall. I did the illustrations for their titular book (coming soon) and you can see some of those illustrations in their site design.

And between those two, I think that might explain why I haven't had as much to post in the later half of this year! Illustrating a 30+ page comic, finishing up a children's book, and working tends to keep one busy!

But for now, I'm resting up as best I can in anticipation for the holidays. 'Tis the season of knitting gifts for people and holding tight at my day jobs as things get insane. But at least, this time, I'm not working retail?

Apologies for the radio silence. My left hand is still on the mend but it's almost back to full capacity. I quit my part time retail job right after surgery and somehow I got hired for two part time office jobs a week later. So, uh, I have a bit of a time management struggle at the moment. I'm still drawing, but it's all comics or long term projects that I can't share until they hit print (or fanart to blow off steam).

I really want to finish my OC100 soon, though, so I'll make that a priority next time I hit a comicking break.

On the upside, I have more appearances scheduled:

Two of my pieces will be showing in the SF Studio Gallery "Mischief" show from July 15-August 9th.

I'll be attending SF Zinefest from August 22-23rd (my table is listed as "The Littlest Elle").

And, like last year, I will be tabling at Alternative Press Expo from October 17-18 (also listed as "The Littlest Elle").

So, although I'm not as active on this account, I am still being active! If you're planning to attend either of these cons, come say hi :D I will be stocking minicomics, Frog Prince, Erstwhile 01, and jewelry.

More silent than usual right now while my left hand is immobilized in a splint. I'm on the mend and I'll be fine in a few weeks, but typing/commenting/posting is very difficult until I get my hand back (at least I can still draw in the meanwhile!).

More OC100 when I return. Want to wrap that up asap.

In less dreary news, I was invited to the Charles M. Schulz museum in Santa Rosa as a cartoonist-in-residence on Saturday, June 13th. I'll be there to chat, Q&A, and sell minis to any locals who swing by. Hopefully by then I will have my hand back!

Busy fall, busy winter, busy January... things keep rolling along like usual. Some of my personal projects are a bit more delayed than expected (I will get the etsy up! And online sales for Ellezilla! Just... not in January like I planned). Some, way more delayed (second webcomic, alas, you look like you will start in fall now!).

Why are things being pushed back? Well, one of the big reasons is that I have some projects going on with other people that I'm working on in the background right now! I can't share details yet, but there I will have my hand in something new for Strawberry Comics and then there's something hush-hush that I'll talk about at a later date.

Also, owning a cat is time consuming.

But! Here's some exciting news, for anyone who's been watching my commission bar and been frustrated to see things permanently closed: a friend of mine is hosting a fundraiser on her blog to pitch in a little on her roomate's yorkie's surgery (okay, that sounds complex, but basically: a little dog has cataracts, she's trying to raise money for the little dog).

I agreed to offer a commission slot for a one page comic or a simple illustration and if you go over to her blog, you can enter for a chance to win that commission slot. It will be up until Wednesday, February 4th. If you're a fan of my art, I fully encourage you to swing on by. Asking price for donations is pretty tiny, and you don't even have to donate to enter. I'd be so excited if my contribution could bring a little bit of funds to the table. Like, if I could get enough bids to raise 20 dollars, even that would be amazing.

(My only restriction to this, seriously, is no porn. Everything else? Totally an option. I will even overcome my fear of furries and draw furries for you. I will even revisit Okage for you. You want some art to go with your epic fic about how Ned from Pushing Daisies joins the Teen Titans, marries Raven, and totally has a daughter who totally ends up being the Doctor's true love? I will make it so.)

Busy fall, busy winter... at least I'm keeping active :) APE was fantastic and very validating (people liked my work? Amazing!). I'm contemplating where I want to go from here with my comics and things, but in the meantime I'm putting more time into my journal comic (now on a shiney new wordpress server, huzzah!) and plotting out a fictional webcomic I want to introduce in 2009.

Other things in the works include an etsy shop for my crafts, rolling out in early 2009, and online sales of some of my self-published minis (like Ellezilla. You know you want to read about Japan!) on my website shortly thereafter.

Other plans, though not nearly so grand, include going through my sketchbook before the end of the year and finishing up all the in-progress original character 100 pieces from as far back as August. I won't finish by the end of the year, but I'll be done soon. Which will be downright momentous!

In other, totally non art news, I recently adopted a cat. Which is consuming all my time. Enough said, really.

But, it's the holidays and I feel festive, so a meme I was tagged for:

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
When I was 14 I got on this high horse about how wasteful Christmas is and I started our family on pre-wrapping boxes (like in the movies, where the only thing holding them together is a bow). We now have a huge stash built up over time with all kinds of funky paper. Those are my favorites :D

2. Real tree or Artificial?
Real! I have a tiny living tree outside my apartment, it is adorable. But the family does real.

3. When do you put your tree up?
Sometime in December, depending on how busy we all are. This year was kind of early...

4. When do you take the tree down?
January? Dad's a neat freak ^_^;

5. Do you like eggnog?
Never had it!

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
A build it yourself Victorian dollhouse kit that my dad and I then put together... and never finished painting.

7. Hardest person to buy for?
My older brother, because we are totally not alike

8. Easiest person to buy for?
Mom

9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Mom has one

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
E-mail.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
Oven mitts that are too stiff to actually use for cooking.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Nightmare Before Christmas

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
I used to start real early, but now it's late November.

14. Have you ever re-gifted a Christmas present?
No, but I've been regifted one by my brother before.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Honeybaked ham :D

16. Lights on the tree?
Yep! Multicolor.

17. Favorite Christmas song?
"White Christmas"

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Stay home.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
Dasher Dancer Donner Blitzen Comet Cupid Vixen... Rudolph... am I missing one?

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Angel

21. Open presents on Christmas Eve or morning?
Used to be tradition to open exactly on on the Eve and the rest in the morning... now it's just morning.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Working retail.

23. Favorite Ornament theme or color?
Silver and white or red and gold

24. Favorite thing for Christmas dinner?
Honeybaked ham. And pie. And chocolate. Um. All of it?

25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
A new printer so that I don't have to borrow someone else's to make my own minicomics ^^;

Fall has been much busier than I expected!

I'll be renting half a table at APEa (Nov. 1-2, San Francisco) this year and I've been all a flutter trying to get things ready. My table's listed as The Littlest Elle and I'll be bringing copies of The Frog Prince, some extras of If the Shoe Fits</a>, two all-new self published minicomics... and hopefully jewelry. I need to get working on the jewelry.

The minis will be rad. The first one is an autobiographical thing based on my trip to Japan last year and none of that's going to be posted online. I've been working on it for a month solid and I'm so pleased I may just do a sequel later. The second is going to be Fitcher's Bride, the 24 Hour Comic I created this past weekend.

Obviously, that is also my way of saying "look, look, I just created a full 24 page comic this past weekend and it's online so you can read it! I think it's keen! Go, click the link!" But.

In non-APE news, I've still been recovering from moving and constant job hunting and that is why my commission status has remain closed despite hints of being open this fall. I'm not happy about that, believe me, but hopefully things'll settle.

Slowly but surely I've been rocking my original character 100. I have an assortment of images in various points of completion (going to Boston actually inspired me to revisit/ink a few of these pieces) so I'll continue posting those gradually. My old goal for the year was 75 and it's kind of exciting that I've already surpassed it! :)

Time has totally been flying by lately. Or is that just me?

The Frog Prince is officially in print as of August 1st, so that's still totally exciting!

My original character 100 with the super ancient fantasy character set just hit 65/100, so I'm well on target to meet my goal of at least 75 by the year's end.

I'm going to be travelling with work (retail business trip = bwuhhh?) for the next month, so I'll be unable to post any new work in that time (no scanner). And after that, I return home only to move! So, exciting times. After all that dust settles, which most likely will be September, I totally want to open up for some commissions because I could use the extra income. So, watch for that.

Hello, hello!

It's been a while. First off, some exciting news: I've joined Strawberry Comics AND I WILL BE PUBLISHING A SHORT STORY BASED ON THE FROG PRINCE VERY SOON! It will be available for order on their website later this summer, in print AND in ebook form (and in the meantime, preorders are open!). Exciting times abound!

Second off: Alas, commissions will have to wait. I am caught up in the apartment rennovations again, and then I may or may not be travelling for a month sometime between now and September for work. Wouldn't be right, opening up for commissions only to find out I'm leaving town right after :/ If I finally get the dates for work, I'll open up a couple of slots!

Third off: My original character 100 finally crossed the 50 mark! Woohoo! I am still shooting for maybe 75-80 by the end of the year. I'd rather do some interesting pieces than have all of them be gag-comics and super sketchy sketches (unless I get some brilliant gag-ideas, then I may finish this year afterall).

Life has a way of all being busy at once, doesn't it?

Trying to work on a side project right now, which has the unfortunate effect of curtailing the OC100. I have like one or two more images in my backlog and then it might be until May until I have more. Yipes! Sorry! I do want to get to at least 75% this year (if not finished), though, so it's in my interest to get back to it when I can.

I'm planning on moving out in May and I was thinking on taking some commissions this summer to help supplement my crappy dayjob income and offset all the new bills. But I'm genuinely kind of curious: would any of you commission me if I did open up?

We're talking summer, of course. So not immediately. But I am trying to guess interest nonetheless.

One more spin around the feature meme (this time, with graphical links!). Because promoting the art love is always a good thing!

Rules of the meme: I feature the first ten people who comment in my journal. I pick my 3 favorite artworks of theirs, and display them in my journal!

Here is the catch/opportunity to spread community spirit: You must in turn put this in YOUR journal, and do the same for others. Also, check back when I'm done featuring, so you can see everybody's beautiful works.

Are you ready? GO! (aw, lame, nonsubscribers can't link to thumbnails. What reason could they POSSIBLY have to explain why that's a pay-necessary feature?)
